Bhel Puri is an interesting street food that you can find on the benches and streets of the India. This easy recipe is a popular snack recipe and can be made very quickly. It’s a mixture of puffed rice with Onions, Tomatoes, boiled Potatoes, Besan Sev and various Chutneys. This recipe is liked by everyone, making it an evening snack.





Preparation time: 30 Mins

Cooking time: 10 Mins

Serves: 4 -6 people

Ingredients:

Puffed Rice - 1 Cup
Tomatoes chopped - ½ Cup
Onion (finely chopped) - 1 medium size
Boiled potato - 1/2 cut into cubes
Chopped green chili- 4
Besan Sev - 1/2 cup (available ready-made)
Papdi - 5-6 (broken into pieces)
Roasted peanuts - 2 tbsp
Lemon juice to taste
Salt as needed
Chaat masala or Garam masala- 1/2 Tsp.
Imli / Tamarind Chutney - 3 tbsp
Green Chutney - 3 tbsp
Red chutney- 3 tbsp   
For garnishing - Coriander leaves 
Small chopped cucumber- 1
Tablespoon pomegranate seeds- 4
1 piece cut into strips ginger


How to make:

Step 1
Take the puffed rice, tomatoes, onions and cube potatoes in a large bowl, and mix them well.

Step 2
Mix chopped green chilies, tamarind chutney, green chutney& red chutney along with chaat masala and add it to the bowl.

Step 3
Lightly crush and add the papadi in the bowl. Now, add the Besan Sev and the remaining ingredients, and mix them well.

Step 4
Finally garnish with chopped coriander leaves, cucumber, roasted peanuts, ginger slices, pomegranate and lemon juice & Serve it.


The method for chutneys:

Green chutney:
Put mint leaves, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, salt (to taste), lemon juice, and green chili into a zar & grind together to make a smooth paste.

Red chutney recipe:
Take 10-12 red chilies & soak in water for some time. Then grind it with 2-3 garlic cloves and salt to taste. Please note that you can also use red chili powder for chutney.

Tamarind Chutney:
Soak tamarind in water for 30 mins. Combine jaggery/ sugar and soaked tamarind in a sauce pan and bring it to boil over medium heat. After cooling, squeeze out all pulp from tamarind and strain it out using a strainer. Now add ginger powder, roasted jeera powder, red chili powder and salt in tamarind pulp and mix well together. Tamarind chutney is ready.


Important Tips:

Bhel is highly nutritious but low in fat similarly puffed rice is also rich in Vitamin B & proteins.
You can prepare tamarind chutney in advance to save the time & can store the chutney for 3 to 4 weeks in the refrigerator.
While preparing bhel puri, you can adjust the ingredients according to your taste.
